Are you NaNoing?

What is NaNoWriMo?

NaNoWriMo is short for National Novel Writing Month where writers compete to complete 50k words in the month of November. This has a number of challenges in it for US writers as we are hijacked by at least one holiday at the end of our mad dash of words. It breaks down to 1667 words a day to complete your goal by the 30th of November. It can be thrilling and nerve wracking and oh so satisfying when you meet your goal. And it's a great motivator for those who have always wanted to write a novel, but never had the motivation to.

So are you participating this year? We are already on day two, but it's still very attainable if the idea is new to you and intriguing. I encourage you all to try! There's an entire community of writers struggling to meet the same goals as you, and you can join groups where people do write ins and sprints to help you get words down. It's a great way to meet new writing friends and find your community, online or locally.

But it can also be daunting and not the best month to throw yourself into this particular endeavor. I have decided not to do it this year, and while I'm a little sad at that, I know it's the best decision for me. I will still be writing, but with a little less pressure. And I wish everyone doing the endeavor the best! Happy writing and flying fingers to you all!

So are you going to NaNo? Let me know in the comments.
